About JIME Center

  • JIME Center, which was originally established on September 1974 as the Japanese Institute of Middle Eastern Economies (JIME), made a fresh start on April 2005 as a unit of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ).
The Center is the only private institute in Japan specializing in the research of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region from a broad set of perspectives: politics, economy, society, security and energy security.
Researchers are highly skilled professionals with considerable experience in the region. The Center also accepts qualified personnel from supporting member companies and works in cooperation with other research institutes in Japan and around the world.
  • The MENA region has long been vital to Japan’s economy in the fields of energy, trade, plant export and others. Despite the geopolitical importance of the region, however, less attention has been paid to the realities of these countries.
  • The Center is dedicated to provide timely and unique in-depth analyses of the ever-changing developments in the region to both Japanese public and private sector. Through these activities, the Center aims to contribute to the further development of Japan’s economy.
