Global anti-terrorism campaign should fight Israel's terorr first

Abu Dhabi, Sept. 29, 2001 (WAM) -- The UAE has not only been open and decisive in its condemnation of terrorism since the early moments of attacks on New York and Washington, but also voiced support for any international effort to whip out the danger. +President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's words: 'The UAE condemned all acts of terrorism everywhere' was a true expression of Arab and Muslim position towards the phenomenon,' wrote +Akhbar Al Arab.+ +However, the UAE position towards events in the US has come in line with its avowed firm stances of rejecting the policy of double standards with regard to international political and human causes,+ the paper said, affirming that yesterday's statement by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Information and Culture, had left no room for manoeuvre in relation to the unequivocal position of the UAE. In his statement, Sheikh Abdullah outlined UAE's practical response to cooperate with Washington in the fight against terrorism, in the hunt for Osama bin Laden and his Al Qaeda organisation, in gathering information about their activities and in freezing suspect accounts. But, the paper commented that these efforts would never be made at the expense of Arab and Muslim causes, adding that the ball is now at the court of the US and the anti-terrorism international coalition and how both would react to Israeli terrorism which has crossed all red lines. +From here, the UAE's political and legal position has inspired the stances of the majority of Arab and Muslim countries which back the UAE vision echoed by Sheikh Abdullah. The Muslims states could be forced to reconsider their role in a US-led coalition against terrorism if Israel continued to kill Palestinians. Israel cannot be a member of the coalition while they behave as terrorists against the Palestinians.+ Sheikh Abdullah, the paper said, was very clear in emphasising that (Israeli Prime Minister Ariel) Sharon has to decide now if he's with the terrorists or is against them.+ +By killing Palestinians and ignoring Arab and Palestinian peace calls, the arrogant terrorist Sharon is putting credibility of US regional and global policy at a critical test and causing embarrasment that cannot be justified for those who are eager for a fair fight against terrorism, especially if some of those players include the current or potential victims of Israeli terrorism.+ MORE WAM/TF-VV
