Yousuf bin Alawi – Statement…………..Part II,

He said he had a belief that this incident would change the world behavior in the light of the voices calling for the necessity that this new century should witness development in the progress of stability, development and international cooperation and to find lasting settlement to the chronic problems, notably the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

On the request of some Arab countries to hold an Arab emergency summit to discuss the latest international developments, Alawi said consultations among the Arab’s had increased due to the recent incidents and some believed that these consultations were sufficient and there was no need for a summit, instead a meeting of the Arab Foreign Minister would be enough.

He said that the statement of the last GCC Foreign Ministers meeting in Riyadh on the issue of terrorism was a renewal of previous Arab stands with regard to terrorism. He noted that terrorism cannot stand without the support of clandestine organisations and that Arab countries were combating it because they are the most countries harmed by terrorism.

Alawi added that Arab countries which paid costly think that there is now an opportunity for each party in this world to bear its responsibility to build an international community which is free of these troubles.

On the facilities which could be provided by the GCC countries to the United States and the coalition which is being forged against terrorism, Alawi said the GCC countries had old ties with the west, particularly with Europe and the United States which was well demonstrated during what was called the second Gulf War or the war of the liberation of Kuwait.

“It is normal the Gulf countries respond generally or individually in what these countries see as appropriate, saying that in this aspect in particularly the GCC countries take a more balanced stand” he said.
