Karroubi calls for int'l unanimity in fight against terrorism
Rabat, Morocco, Sept 28, IRNA -- Iran's Parliament Speaker Mehdi
Karroubi here Thursday called for the international unanimity in the
campaign for the establishment of security and maintaining peace in
the world.
Speaking at the inauguration of a meeting of the parliamentary
speakers of 15 Islamic countries--members of the Organization of the
Islamic Conference--the Iranian official expressed sympathy with the
bereaved families of the victims in a recent horror attack in the
United States.
Karroubi also announced the Islamic Republic's readiness for
"stemming roots of the ominous phenomenon of terrorism."
He cited the ongoing "atrocities of the Zionist regime against
the Palestinian people and its continuation of a state terrorism as
well as violation of human rights as among the joint worries of the
Islamic countries."
"The attacks of the Israeli soldiers on Palestinians should be
seen as aggression against the dignity and standing of all world
Muslims," Karroubi added.
He said the popular Intifadha (uprising) for the release of the
Beit-ul-Moqaddas was "a natural, legal and firm reaction against
the criminal actions of the occupying Israelis", adding "the world's
freedom-seekers today have hinged their hopes on this decisive
struggle since they know that no alternative has been left for the
Palestinian people except for the resistance and fight with the
occupiers."
Karroubi highlighted the role of the newly-established
parliamentary union of the OIC in having the potential to help to the
"prosperity and welfare of all world Muslims as well as followers of
other divine religions."
"This importance will materialize once the parliamentary union of
the OIC member countries... stands by any possible means by all
the oppressed, especially Muslims who are undergoing discrimination in
every spot of the world, and fights with the current challenges of
the Islamic world," he added.
Karroubi referred to the ongoing ordeals of Muslims in
Afghanistan, Iraq, Sierra Leone, Kashmir and Kosovo saying the
parliamentary union of the OIC should put out its unsparing support
for the protection of Muslims' rights throughout the world.
MEETS WITH SAUDI MAJLIS SPEAKER
Earlier in the day, the Iranian parliamentary speaker met with
is Saudi counterpart Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Jubair and
stressed the need for the two countries to expand their parliamentary
as well as people-to-people ties through the establishment of
friendship groups.
He hoped relations between world Muslims would strengthen
further under more congruity among the Islamic countries.
The Moroccan King Muhammed VI chairs the 15-nation al-Qods
(Jerusalem)committee, a body of the OIC, which strongly supports the
Palestinian authority claim over the eastern part of Beit-ul-Moqaddas.

"challenge the detractors of Islam", who he said, "equate our religion
with extremism and violence."

occupied territories, including the Golan Heights in Syria, during the
two-day Parliamentary Union of OIC.
They will also debate the "role of Islamic parliaments in the
dialogue between civilizations and the impact of globalization on
the economies of Islamic countries."
