HOUSE ON MIDEAST PEACE PROCESS WASHINGTON, SEP. 27, SPA-- SPEAKING FROM WASHINGTON YESTERDAY, WHITE HOUSE SPOKESMAN ARI FLEISCHER SAID THAT THE SEPTEMBER 11TH TERRORIST ATTACKS ON WASHINGTON AND NEW YORK HAVE PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE ISRAELIS AND PALESTINIANS TO MAKE A MORE SERIOUS EFFORT AT PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. 'THE PRESIDENT BELIEVES THAT ALL THE PARTIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST HAVE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY AND SEE THIS AS A MOMENT TO REALIZE THE REPERCUSSIONS OF GOING DOWN THE WRONG ROAD,' FLEISCHER SAID. 'THAT IS A ROAD THAT HAS LED TO TERRORISM ANDTO CONFLICT, AND IN THE MIDDLE EAST, HAS LED TO WAR.' 'AND THAT'S WHY THE PRESIDENT FEELS SO STRONGLY, AND HAS SAIDTHIS TO (ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER ARIEL SHARON AND PALESTINIAN CHAIRMANYASSER ARAFAT),' FLEISCHER ADDED, 'THAT THEY SHOULD SEIZE THIS MOMENTAND RENEW THEIR EFFORTS TO ACCOMPLISH A LASTING PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST.' ISRAELI FOREIGN MINISTER SHIMON PERES AND ARAFAT MET THIS MORNING IN GAZA, WHERE THEY AGREED TO SUSTAIN THEIR CEASE-FIRE AND TORESUME SECURITY COOPERATION, ACCORDING TO THE WHITE HOUSE.
