  PAKISTAN NOT TO JOIN ANTI-AFGHANISTAN OPERATION
 
  ISLAMABAD, SEPT 26 (KUNA) -- PAKISTAN WEDNESDAY SAID IT WAS PART OF
  INTERNATIONAL COALITION AGAINST TERRORISM BUT COULD NEVER JOIN ANY HOSTILE
  ACTION AGAINST AFGHANISTAN.
  FOREIGN OFFICE SPOKESMAN TOLD A PRESS BRIEFING TODAY, "WE ARE DEEPLY
  CONSCIOUS THAT DESTINIES OF THE TWO PEOPLE AND TWO COUNTRIES ARE INTERTWINED".
  THE SPOKESMAN SAID, "IT IS A FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM IN WHICH PAKISTAN IS
  PART OF INTERNATIONAL COALITION AND WE WANT THE AFGHAN GOVERNMENT TO BE
  RESPONSIVE TO WHAT INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY WANTS FROM IT. IT IS NOT A FIGHT
  AGAINST ANY PEOPLE OR ANY COUNTRY".
  HE SAID, THERE IS NO JOINT OPERATION OR ANY SPECIFIC OPERATION OR
  CONTINGENCY PLAN WHICH HAS BEEN PLACED BEFORE PAKISTAN.
  RESPONDING TO A QUESTION, THE SPOKESMAN SAID PAKISTAN DID NOT HAVE ANY
  INFORMATION ABOUT OSAMA BIN LADEN OR LEADERS OF AL-QAIDA GROUP.
  ASKED ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF ENTRY OF AL-QAIDA MEMBERS INTO PAKISTAN IN
  THE GUISE OF AFGHAN REFUGEES, KHAN SAID,"THEY WOULD BE CONFIDENT OF NOT
  FINDING SAFE HAVEN IN PAKISTAN."
  ANSWERING A QUESTION, THE SPOKESMAN SAID PAKISTAN HAD NOT OPENED BORDER
  WITH AFGHANISTAN. HE SAID THERE WERE REPORTS THAT LARGE NUMBER OF AFGHANS HAD
  GATHERED ALONG THE BORDER.NEVERTHELESS, WE HAVE MAINTAINED OUR POLICY NOT TO
  OPEN THE BORDER.
  HOWEVER, HE SAID, THE BORDERS WERE OPEN TO FOOD SUPPLIES AND TRADE AS
  AFGHANISTAN BEING A LAND-LOCKED COUNTRY WAS DEPENDENT ON PAKISTAN.
  IN RESPONSE TO A QUESTION, HE SAID THERE WAS NO CONFIRMATION OF THE REPORTS
  THAT INDIAN FORCES HAD LANDED IN UZEBKISTAN.
  HE SAID THE US DEFENSE DELEGATION IS STILL IN PAKISTAN AND WAS HOLDING
  TALKS WITH ITS COUNTERPARTS.
  IN RESPONSE TO A QUESTION, HE SAID THE AFGHAN EMBASSY IN PAKISTAN WAS NOT
  BEING ASKED TO CLOSE DOWN.
  HE REGRETTED THE ATTACK AND TORCHING OF US EMBASSY IN KABUL AND SAID SUCH
  ACTS WERE NOT IN KEEPING WITH THE DIPLOMATIC NORMS. (MORE)
