x x x people The Gulf News said that Sheikh Zayed had made completely clear his total support for the actions of the gathering coalition against terror, but he also called for a similar coalition to take the same kind of action to find a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian conflict. +We request all leaders to work in full frankness on the two tasks in parallel and at the same time,'' he said this week. He emphasised that there will be no full peace until the Palestinians excercised their right to self-determination, the Israeli occupation is ended and they have an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital. For many years, the paper said, Sheikh Zayed has consistently advocated peace in the region and Arab unity throughout the Middle East. +It is no surprise that he should endorse the American call for a global fight against terrorism. Just as it is no surprise that he calls an end to the terrorism that is taking place daily in the Middle East conflict between Palestinians and Israelis,+ the paper said. +Sheikh Zayed has long held that much of the cause of the Palestinian problem is due to the covert and overt support of Israel by the US. Consequently, while the UAE looks upon America as a friend which can be turned to in times of need, it is not a friendship that can be abused, but should be listened to as the voice of experience in the region. Seeking an end to terrorism is only right and proper : doing so while ignoring the most blatant terrorism in the region is taking vested interests too far and will win America no allies,+ the paper concluded.
