Listen to voice of reason : UAE dailies

Abu Dhabi, Sept. 18, 2001 (WAM) -- The UAE press said today President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan struck the heart of the matter when he urged his US counterpart George W. Bush to excercise caution and not to take preciptious action until all of the evidence has been carefully collected and analysed so that any response then would have the backing of international legitimacy. Sheikh Zayed made his remarks in a telephone talks with Bush over international developments in the wake of last Week's terrorist attacks on the US. +Sheikh Zayed openly and baldly speaks the truth at a time when the whole world is waiting patiently for the next step,+ wrote the Abu Dhabi-based ''Al Ittihad. The President, the paper said, had reiterated the consistent UAE policy of opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and that international solidarity against terrorism should be firmly based on basic principles, with no question of double standards. +The US and the international community should also work, at the same time, to bring about an end to Israeli terrorist acts in the occupied Palestinian territories, so that people around the world do not perceive any element of injustice,+ the President said. Al Bayan of Dubai commented that the US, along with other global players, was heading to build an international coalition to fight terrorism but, at the midst of this international flurry, the international community was turning its back to the source of terrorism : the Zionist terrorism against the Palestinian people. The paper said that at this critical juncture of history of the world a voice of reason had emerged from the UAE when Sheikh Zayed called on NATO, Russia and China, to form a parallel alliance to reach a lasting and just settlement to the Middle East crisis. +Sheikh Zayed's call represents the voice of reason amidst the current global storm.. The international community should understand that Israel's occupation of Palestine will complicate the situation and threaten international peace and security,+ the paper added. +Arab and Muslims cannot accept what is happening in the occupied territories -the daily acts of killing, destruction and terrorism. The international coalition against terrorism will not have the popular support in the Arab and Islamic world if there are no real pledges to end Israel's occupation of Arab lands and its aggression on the Palestinian people.
