USA/Attacks: Algeria Pleads for a Universal
Action Under the Supervision of the United Nations
|
Algeria asserted Sunday that the tragic developments taking
place in the United States underline "the emergency and imperious
necessity of a universal action organised in the framework of a
concerted strategy that would be in conformity with the
international commitments concluded under the supervision of the
United Nations". Condemning "firmly" these "odious attacks", the
cabinet, meeting under the chairmanship of the president of the
republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, recalled that " it is neither wise
nor fair to make an amalgam between the terrorist barbarity and
Islam, a pure religion of tolerance, peace and fraternity".
"Algeria, the cabinet underlines in a communiqu・
sympathises with full serenity with the pain of the American people,
It which suffered from the same barbarity for a decade and which saw
some tens of millions of children perishing by the brutality of
terrorism that shakes blindly without any distinction".
In this context, the communiqu・recalled that the
Algerian authorities "did not stop appealing for setting up an
effective international co-operation" of struggle against terrorism,
a plague that Algeria is fighting "with determination'' since about
ten years.
