ABU DHABI, SEPT 16, 2001 (WAM)--The Zayed Centre for Co-ordination and Follow Up has issued a study entitled +Southern Lebanon: The Balance of Deterrence+ on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the 1982 Sabra and Chatilla massacres of Palestinians in Beirut. The study says that Israelis have always believed in the myth that military power is capable of achieving anything. The Lebanese Resistance, however has forced Israelis out of southern Lebanon proving the myth false, according to reports in the UAE's dailies. The study further calls for learning the lesson of victory in southern Lebanon, which excludes surrender as a way to reach a resolution of the Arab - Israeli conflict. This study is a documentation of the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, starting with the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, all the way through the continuous, painful pressure that Hizbollah had put on the Israeli army. The study also notes the guerrilla strikes and the Israeli decision to withdraw from Southern Lebanon and the Lebanese rejection of all the Israeli conditions to withdraw from its territories.
