UAE, Gulf states condemn attacks

THE United Arab Emirates and other Arab Gulf states yesterday condemned a series of terrorists attacks in New York and Washington and offered condolences to the family of the victims and sympathy to the people of the United States. In Abu Dhabi, Minister of Information and Culture Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan said: "The government of the United Arab Emirates strongly condemns these terrorist attacks.

"These criminal and horrifying attacks necessitate a strong and comprehensive international campaign to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," he added.

In Riyadh, a Saudi official quoted by the SPA news agency said the kingdom condemned "the regrettable and inhuman explosions and attacks on the World Trade Centre and Pentagon." He said that Saudi Arabia "strongly deplores such acts which contradict all religious values and civilised, humanitarian concepts."

The official said the kingdom "extends its condolences to the families of the victims, President George W. Bush and the American people." Riyadh will continue its "work with the international community to fight all forms of terrorism," he added.

The Kuwaiti cabinet said: "Kuwait, which rejects all forms of terrorism, condemns these terrorist acts and expresses its deep sympathy to the people of the US."

In Doha, Qatari Foreign Minister Shaikh Hamad bin Jassem Al Thani condemned "the terrorist attacks and their serious consequences for global security". - Wam, AFP
