From the Director of JIME Center

Responding to the Challenges...

The Middle East, being the chief supplier of today's energy with vast reserves of resources for the future, has constantly drawn the attention of the international community, as a whole, and Japan, in particular, for its events and developments.

JIME Center has managed to provide, for both the Japanese public and private sector, exclusive and unique in-depth analysis of the political, economic, social and cultural developments in the region. The Center is expected to further prove its abilities and present its accumulated achievements in front of the transition to come in the Middle East.

Koichiro Tanaka

Director of JIME Center

Purpose of JIME Center

  • JIME Center, founded on April 1, 2005, has continued since its original foundation on September 10,1974 as The Japanese Institute of Middle Eastern Economies (JIME). It is the only private research institute in Japan specializing in Middle Eastern economies and politics in particular and worldwide energy (oil and gas) issues in general.
  • Researchers highly knowledgeable about the region and the field, including those who have good command of Arabic, Persian or other languages and those who have long experience in the region, bring a dimension to Middle Eastern studies rarely found elsewhere. JIME Center also accepts many researchers from supporting member companies and works in cooperation with many other research institutes in Japan and in the world.
  • In some cases, not only the center's research staff but also the outside specialists concentrate on analyzing the current situation in the region.
  • Each research staff belongs to one of the following three groups; Middle East & North Africa Group, GCC Group, Iran &Iraq Group, while they sometimes work together on specific topics.
  • JIME Center is known for its timely and accurate analysis from the objective point of view. While supported by many member companies, JIME Center maintains its independent stance as a non-profit private institute.
